Do you love to have your dog ride along with you on your bicycle adventures? We do too. There are many things to consider when buying a bicycle trailer. One of the biggest considerations is how large your dog is compared to the size of dog bicycle travel trailer that you need to purchase. Our Favorite Dog Bicycle Trailers for Travel Reviews

Here are our reviews of our favorite dog bicycle trailers for travel in 2021 to help you choose the right one for your pet and family. All of these options are under $250 as we think you’ll be able to find what meets your needs within this budget.

#1. Editor’s Choice: PetSafe Happy Ride Aluminum Dog Bike Trailer

PetSafe Happy Ride Aluminum Dog Bike Trailer

PetSafe Specifications

Packaging Dimensions:33 x 33 x 22 inches
Packaging Weight:25 pounds
Maximum Weight Recommendation of Dog(s):110 pounds
Maximum Height Recommendation of Dog(s): 25 inches
Price: $$$ (Check the latest price)
Our Rating:9/10

This dog trailer ranks #1 our list.

Although this is the most expensive dog bicycle trailer out of those we looked at, it’s our top choice for several reasons.

First, it has the versatility to fit a large dog, a couple of medium size dogs, and probably three small dogs! The other dog trailers we looked at simply don’t offer that flexibility. There is an option to purchase a Large or Medium dog trailer, so be sure you look for this detail.

Second, the design sits low making for easier entry and exit for older pets and those with mobility issues from arthritis, for example.

Third, it’s easy to connect to your bike. This is important when you need to set up quickly and get yourself and your dogs on the road. The disconnection process is just as easy.

Note that a universal hitch is included with this dog trailer too.

Based on reviews it appears that the manufacturer does a good job resolving concerns with the product as well.

#2. Aosom Elite II 2-in-1 Pet Dog Bike Trailer

Aosom Elite II 2-in-1 Pet Dog Bike Trailer

Aosom Elite II Specifications

Packaging Dimensions:33 x 29 x 9 inches
Packaging Weight:45.9 pounds
Maximum Weight Recommendation of Dog(s): 66 pounds
Maximum Height Recommendation of Dog(s): 20 inches
Price: $$$ (Check the latest price)
Our Rating:8.5/10

This dog trailer ranks #2 our list.

This is the first of the two top-selling Aosom models we took a look at for this article.

First, the “two-in-one” capability is what makes this our second top choice in this list. The “two-in-one” means that it can either attach to your bicycle or you can situate the front tire to make it into a stroller for walking or jogging. Some reviews prefer the stroller feature over the trailer feature and rough terrain is no problem.

Second, it’s a medium sized trailer so the handling is easier. Of course, this also means that large dogs over 66 pounds won’t fit, but multiple smaller and medium dogs will fit at the same time.

Third, there are a variety of options to get your dog in and out of the trailer based on what works for you and your pet. For example, top load, front load and back load are all options.

An Aosom hitch is included with this dog trailer.

Based on reviews it appears that the manufacturer does a good job resolving concerns with the product as well.

#3. Sepnine and Leonpets Large Bicycle Pet Trailer

Best Dog Bicycle Trailers - Sepnine and Leonpets Large Bicycle Pet Trailer

Sepnine and Leonpets Specifications

Packaging Dimensions:‎48 x 22 x 41 inches
Packaging Weight:39.6 pounds
Maximum Weight Recommendation of Dog(s): 88 pounds
Maximum Height Recommendation of Dog(s): 25 inches
Price: $$ (Check the latest price)
Our Rating:8/10

This dog trailer ranks #3 our list.

First, as noted above with our #2 choice, we love the “two-in-one” capability. Most people don’t have the space for both a dog trailer and a stroller as separate units. So, the fact there are options with two-in-one is awesome.

Second, it’s a larger sized trailer (but not the largest of those in this article), so it might be just the right size if you need one that meets in the middle of sizes.

Third, this appears to be a new brand and model of dog trailer as there were not a lot of reviews to look at, but those listed were favorable and had high ratings.

It is unclear if this dog trailer comes with a hitch or not.

Based on reviews it appears that the manufacturer does a good job resolving concerns with the product as well.

#4. Aosom Bike Trailer Cargo Cart for Dogs

Aosom Bike Trailer Cargo Cart for Dogs

Aosom Specifications

Packaging Dimensions:33.86 x 25 x 8.86 inches
Packaging Weight:30.8 pounds
Maximum Weight Recommendation of Dog(s): 44 pounds
Maximum Height Recommendation of Dog(s): 24 inches
Price: $ (Check the latest price)
Our Rating:7.5/10

This dog trailer ranks #4 our list.

This is the second of the two top-selling Aosom models we took a look at for this article. It’s also the lowest priced dog trailer of the five we’ve reviewed in this article, but it’s highly rated for good reasons.

First, the ratings are favorable for paved and dirt roads and trails. This is great news for people who want to go off road and want a quick set up.

Second, it’s a medium sized trailer so the handling is easier. But, if you have a large dog this won’t be the best option from the list.

Third, it has large 20″ rear wheels which makes for a smoother ride, but they are EVA wheels, which some people don’t prefer.

We think an Aosom hitch is included with this dog trailer like the first one, but the product description is not specific about this.

Based on reviews it appears that the manufacturer does a good job resolving concerns with the product.

#5. Booyah Small Dog Pet Bike Trailer

Best Dog Bicycle Trailers - Booyah Small Dog Pet Bike Trailer

Booyah Specifications

Packaging Dimensions:23.9 x 17.9 x 9.4 inches
Packaging Weight:23.1 pounds
Maximum Weight Recommendation of Dog(s):15-20 pounds
Maximum Height Recommendation of Dog(s): 14 inches
Price: $$ (Check the latest price)
Our Rating:7/10

This dog trailer ranks #5 our list.

First, this is a simple dog trailer that is most suitable for one or two small dogs. Note that it doesn’t have a stroller conversion option.

Second, the dog trailer attaches directly to the axle and not the frame of your bike. This reduces the chances of your bike frame getting bent or worn paint. We found this to be a very nice feature.

Third, there are no pouches attached to the dog trailer for leashes, water, treats, car keys, etc. Consider using a backpack or fanny pack for those items.

A hitch is included with this dog trailer.

Based on reviews it appears that the manufacturer does a good job resolving concerns with the product as well.

Summary of the Best Dog Bicycle Trailers for Traveling

In summary, we love the PetSafe Happy Ride Aluminum Dog Bike Trailer because we have a large older dog with mobility issues and the size is simply the best choice for us. However, all of the dog trailers that we looked at all seemed to have great features, reviews, and ratings.

If you decide to purchase one, be sure to confirm if a hitch comes with any of these products as this information was inconsistently provided by the manufacturers.

Additionally, it sounds like most of the interior riding cabins of these dog trailers were fabric, slippery, and/or were not a rigid surface (with the exception of the Sepnine and Leonpets brand). The reviews indicated that it would be best to add a memory foam cushion to the bottom of each interior cabin. This would provide stability and cushion for your dog in the cabin.

Remember to check your dogs for fleas after any outdoor adventures. If you need some tips, check out our article The Natural Way of Getting Rid of Fleas on Your Dog and in Your Home.

Finally, it’s great to hear that all of these brands have good manufacturer customer service.

Do you have one of these dog trailers or have you found one that’s your favorite? We’d love to hear about it, so please post it in the comments below!
